Why do people use crystals for healing? Here’s the background…
Crystals are used to make modern technology work
Did you know that crystals vibrate at a very precise frequency? When you think about it, it’s not too surprising as everything on this planet gives off its own energy and has its own electromagnetic field. What’s interesting about crystals is that the vibrations they emit can be so accurate that they are used to help make much of our modern technology work – for example, quartz crystal oscillates so precisely that it is used to make watches and clocks operate accurately.
Quartz (like many crystals) is piezoelectric. This means that if you put pressure on it, it generates a small electric voltage. However, oppositely, if you apply an electrical charge to it then it also vibrates at a precise frequency too. This amazing attribute means that it’s used in many of our everyday appliances and gadgets, such as radios, TVs, electronic games, computers, mobile phones, GPS equipment and ultrasounds. Who knew?! I am no scientist, so if you’d like to know more about this then there is a great article about it here
How does this relate to crystal healing?
So why am I telling you this? I guess, because, when I first became interested in crystals, I had no idea that they could give off this kind of powerful energy. It really intrigued me to know that these beautiful healing stones had an actual role to play in my day-to-day life. It reassured me to know that they were being used in a ‘scientific’ way.
I’ve now come so far beyond needing this reassurance and prefer to go with my gut and trust what makes me feel good. We can’t explain everything so, if it works for me, it works for me – all I care about is how I feel. However, I know that when you’re new to crystals it can feel a bit wacky and ‘out there’ but my advice is to try working with crystals for healing purposes and see if you feel better in any way. And if it makes you feel better then go with it.
How are crystals used in crystal healing?
In crystal healing, we believe that crystals give out positive energy and absorb negative energy. As a result, they can help clear blockages in our chakras and bring our energy back into alignment. Crystals heal holistically. They work on our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual selves.
Because each crystal is formed in a different way (some were made from enormous pressure or heat, some grew in underground caverns, some were formed by dripping or being laid down in layers) this means that they each have their own different formations, distinct vibrations and unique healing properties. With this in mind, crystal healers use different crystals for various chakra points and ailments depending on what they think is required.
As mentioned above, crystals not only give out energy, they also take absorb it and cleanse it. That’s why I wear crystals such as obsidian, smoky quartz and fluorite to help combat any negativity I’m feeling and to give me protection from anyone else’s negative vibes.
Hippy stuff or the real deal?
I know using crystals for healing can sound far-fetched to some – if you’d said the same thing to me 10 years ago then I would probably have raised an eyebrow! However, I benefitted immensely from crystal (and reiki) healing some time ago (and still do) and this is what made me want to share what I am learning.
I think if you go into it with an open mind then you may be surprised about how you feel afterwards. However, I do always stress that it is not a ‘magical fix all’ treatment. It needs to work in conjunction with other areas of your life such as doctor’s advice, good diet, self-care and so on. I would say that one of the most common things people tell me in the days after a treatment is that they feel really relaxed, less stressed or that they slept better.
What do you think of crystal healing? Have you ever had it? Did you benefit from it? I’d love to know!
