Why the New Moon in Aries will light your fire and get you burning for action
If there’s a time to get things done in your life then, believe me, the New Moon in Aries is it.
Scrap January the 1st, when we’re too full of cheese to have any motivation to wash, never mind plan out our year. The beginning of the astrological calendar (i.e. now!) is where it’s at if you want to kickstart your life.
This is one of my favourite New Moons. Spring is in the air. Shoots are starting to sprout. Lighter nights are building. My mojo has come back from its holidays with a suntan and an apology stick of rock. I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m leaving hibernation behind and shifting into productive mode. I want to grow stuff.
That’s the Aries effect.
But what the ramming ram does that mean?
What does the New Moon in Aries bring?
The Aries New Moon is the first New Moon of the zodiacal diary. This naturally makes it a good time to start things. That’s because Aries is to astrology what Bruce Willis is to movies: it brings the action, man. Motivation, drive and determination are key emotions you’ll share with John McClane around this time.
When that Aries energy rises, you might find you’re more confident. You’re a little less conversation and a little more action (please?). That’s because we’ve shifted out of the dreamy Pisces energy and into a more dynamic sign. Aries wants to plough ahead and get it done already.
It’s a sign that is bold and courageous. Definitely not one to sit on the sidelines or take any beef (or mutton).
Now, this doesn’t mean you should stroll into your boss’s office shrieking, “Yippee ki yay, mother f*cker! I want a pay rise”. No, no, no. We don’t want you to do that. Perhaps dial it down to “Armageddon Bruce Willis”. Quietly determined but not over-promoting your abilities to the point of brashness. Try to curb your impulsiveness during the next few days.
All in all, this is a great time to get fierce. Leave your fears behind. Embrace your passions. Really think about what you want to achieve in your life. And get doing it.
Easy New Moon in Aries rituals
Create a 6 or 12-month plan
We’ve now had a few months to settle into the new year and figure out what direction we want to take. That’s why I prefer to set my goals and intentions at this New Moon rather than the dark and gloomy 1st of January when life seems a bit, meh.
The darkness of the New Moon leads us inwards. Use the time to get introspective. What are your passions? What lights you up? What do you want to do more of? And, since beginnings mean endings too, what do you want to leave behind?
Ponder these questions (I like to do this while lying in a relaxing bath) then write down your bigger meatier goals for the next 6 or 12 months.
Write down 3 things you want to achieve this month
New Moons mark the start of the “doing” time of the lunar month. It’s time to take action. Even more so because we’re in pioneering Aries. Write down 3 things you want to achieve this month.
Remember to spend time visualising them coming true and think of an action you can take to bring you closer to each of them (Law of Attraction).

Do something you’re scared of
Aries is ruled by determined and passionate Mars. Use these vibes to help you overcome some of your fears. What have you been putting off because you’re too nervous? Going to a networking event? Going live on your social media pages? Telling someone you’re not happy about how they’ve treated you? Going skydiving?
Contemplate all the ways you’ve been holding yourself back. Then address them. You’ve got this.
Light a red candle
Aries is associated with the sign of red. Red symbolises passion. Light a red candle and stare into it while you picture something that stirs the fire inside of you. Imagine yourself doing more of it. Say, “I invite in everything that excites me and makes me feel alive.”
Contemplate beginnings and endings
We are at the start of the astrological calendar. Cosmically speaking, there is no better chance to think about what we want to start and what we want to leave behind. If you want to give this an extra boost then use fire (Aries is a fire sign after all). Write down everything you want to end and drop the paper into the fire to cleanse you of the energy and send your wishes out into the ether.
Start a new project
We can spend all the time we want making wishes but if we don’t take action then the universe doesn’t know that we really want it. Start new projects and work on them as the moon waxes and gets bigger. Leave any nervousness behind. Aries doesn’t consider failure as an option.
Crystals for the Aries New Moon
Crystals such as labradorite, moonstone, clear quartz, selenite and black tourmaline are always great to work with at New Moons. But each moon has its own flavour. Here are a few more suggestions to harness that New Moon in Aries energy.
Bloodstone
Citrine
Moss Agate
Aquamarine
The most important thing you can do is to go with the crystals that you’re drawn to though. These will always be the right ones as your body’s vibrations call them to you.
Aries New Moon affirmations
Say these New Moon in Aries affirmations to embrace your bold, courageous and dynamic self. She’s in there! Call her out. I like to light candles as I say them out loud. Again, this works perfectly with the fire energy of Aries.
